Born Nov. 2, 1976, Juba, Sudan...parents are Wal and Julia Duany...majored in behavioral science and law...and Masters from Indiana University in Athletic Administration/Sport Management earned nickname "Doc" from grade school coach Joe Boddie who referred to the way Duany "operated on opposing defenses"...has "double name" because family tradition has it that family name is given as the first name to the first-born son...mother (Higher Education) and father (Political Science) were professors and now government officials for the Government of South Sudan (GoSS), Undersecretary of Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs and Member of Parliament respectively, who brought their family to the United States in 1984.

Family Ties:

Now this is a family that plays together. Former Badger Duany Duany was just one of several siblings and relatives playing college basketball his senior year in 2000. His younger brother, Kueth, led his Syracuse Orangemen to a National championship in 2003. The two played against each other in the NABC Classic in 2000, during the beginning of Duany's Final Four season with the Wisconsin Badgers. Duany's two sisters also played college hoops (Nyagon played at Bradley University and Nok played at Georgetown). His youngest brother Bil played at Eastern Illinois.
